Topic Synopsis:

Making decisions is obviously a key aspect of project management. Decision quality (DQ) allows decision makers to have confidence in their choices – or recognize where they should have concerns! The scientific field of decision analysis provides techniques to reduce the challenges of ambiguity and to understand the effects of uncertainty. This talk will define decision quality and provide an overview of the decision analysis process, including discussing the value of framing – and why people resist doing it, and how to incorporate uncertainty in analysis. We briefly touch on the topics of project and organizational management decision making, structuring of decision situations, the use of subjective data, and multiple objective decision analysis.
