If you are considering PMI® Certification, you should become familiar with the PMI® eligibility criteria, the certification process and its associated costs prior to registering for any of the courses. The PMI® web page is an excellent source of information. There you will find information about Membership to PMI, the associated Certification Handbooks and Examination Applications which are available for downloading.
What is Certification?
“The Project Management Institute (PMI®) is the world’s leading association for the project management profession. It administers a globally recognized, rigorous, education, and/or professional experience and examination-based professional credentialing program that maintain an ISO 9001 certification in Quality Management Systems. Certification through PMI® means that one has:
- Demonstrated the appropriate education and/or professional experience;
- Passed a rigorous examination;
- Agreed to abide by a professional code of conduct;
- Committed to maintaining their active credential through meeting continuing certification requirements.
The following certifications are offered by PMI®:
- Project Management Professional (PMP®)
- Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®)
- OPM3® ProductSuite
- Program Management Professional (PgMPSM)
The PMI® Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification provides recognition of an individual's ability to meet specified standards in the field of project management. The certification process requires an applicant to meet minimum education, experience and training criteria and pass a computer generated examination.

The Houston Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI®) typically offers two Project Management Professional (PMP®) Certification Examination Review Seminars each year. Each seminar is scheduled for six consecutive Saturdays. The location will be announced at the time of the opening of registration. For those seeking PMP® Certification, the seminar is an excellent way to prepare for the examination.

PMI® Houston offers members and non-members a volunteer-taught preparation review course for passing the Project Management Professional® exam. See our schedule for up-coming events.
Instructors
The instructors are motivated volunteers who are practicing project managers chosen for their knowledge of the PMBOK®and for their presentation abilities. All instructors have earned the PMP® certification.
Course Material
The course includes a student manual, a copy of the PMBOK® Guide, a PMP® preparation pack from Crosswind Project Management Inc., which includes PMP® exam success series manual, exam simulation book, exam simulation CD-ROM with 23 tests and over 2000 questions, Audio CD’s, Flashcards and brain dump material.
Non PMI® Members
Non PMI members are encouraged to join PMI® and the PMI® Houston Chapter, Inc. The monetary benefits of joining PMI and the Houston chapter are considerable. Not only is the cost for this Prep Course significantly reduced, but so is the cost for taking the exam, a $150.00 savings for PMI® members. PMI members also get considerable discounts, up to 30%, on purchases from the PMI® Bookstore. In addition to the monetary benefits there are also significant benefits from networking and staying informed about developments in the Project Management Profession.
